Do you accept insurance?
I do accept a number of insurances. This list includes Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee, Optum, United Healthcare, Cigna (South Carolina and Tennessee), Aetna, and more. Please reach out to see if your insurance can be applied.
How would you describe your therapeutic style?
In a few words: eclectic, warm, directive, and encouraging.
Taking sessions outdoors…
What is Nature-Based Therapy?
We take our therapy outside and into the living world. We walk. We sit. We listen. This way of working welcomes the body, the senses, and the earth itself into the healing conversation.
I’m not ‘outdoorsy’… What can I expect?
This work is about being with what is — gently, respectfully, and with care. We move at your pace. We choose spaces on the land that feel accessible and supportive to you. Sometimes that means walking a forest path. Sometimes it means sitting beneath a tree or even tending to the garden together. You don’t need special gear, experience, or to “love the outdoors” — just a willingness to be present.
What about the weather?
Weather is part of the experience of bringing therapy outdoors. We honor it, adapt with it, and stay in dialogue about what feels right for you. If the weather is harsh or unsafe, we’ll reschedule or shift to a different format. We’ll work with what the day offers — always with our comfort and safety in mind.
Do we still meet outside in the winter?
If you’d like to continue meeting on the farm during the coldest months of winter, we can utilize the wood-heated stoves in our farm office. We also have the option to meet indoors in a climate-controlled office located in Johnson City.
Is this a more effective form of therapy?
It certainly can be. The work we do together is grounded in training, ethics, and therapeutic depth. And beyond that — it’s rooted in the understanding that healing does not happen in isolation. Being in connection with the living world helps regulate the nervous system, supports resilience, and reminds us we are not alone. Whether you are navigating anxiety, grief, burnout, transition, or simply seeking deeper belonging — this therapeutic work is something special.
Working with the horses…
What does this work with the horses look like?
Our sessions with the horses can take place in the open space of the pasture, or from a chair outside of the fence. From the distance you feel most comfortable, we go about our session while observing the horses. People are regularly amazed to see how the horses mirror our emotions and our body language, often reflecting back to us the tone and energy of the conversation, and offering insights of their own.
Do I need to have any experience with horses?
No prior horse experience is needed and there is no riding involved. Horse-lovers and newcomers alike find valuable lessons in the horses’ presence during our talk therapy or coaching sessions.
