Frequently Asked Questions
Taking sessions outdoors…
What is Nature-Based Therapy?
Rather than sitting across from one another indoors, we step outside—into the living world. We walk. We sit. We listen. This way of working welcomes the body, the senses, and the earth itself into the healing conversation.
I’m not ‘outdoorsy’… What can I expect?
This work is about being with what is—gently, respectfully, and with care. We move at your pace. We choose spaces on the land that feel accessible and supportive to you. Sometimes that means walking a forest path. Sometimes it means sitting beneath a tree or tending to the garden together. You don’t need special gear, experience, or to “love the outdoors”—just a willingness to be present.
What about the weather?
Weather is part of the experience of bringing therapy outdoors. We honor it, adapt with it, and stay in dialogue about what feels right for you. If the weather is harsh or unsafe, we’ll reschedule or shift to a different format. We’ll work with what the day offers — and always with your comfort at the center.
Is this a more effective form of therapy?
It certainly can be. The work we do together is grounded in training, ethics, and therapeutic depth. And beyond that — it’s rooted in the understanding that healing does not happen in isolation. Being in connection with the living world helps regulate the nervous system, supports resilience, and reminds us we are not alone. Whether you are navigating anxiety, grief, burnout, transition, or simply seeking deeper belonging — this path is held with care and integrity.
Working with the horses…
What does this work with the horses look like?
Our sessions with the horses can take place in the open space of the pasture, or from a chair outside of the fence. From wherever you feel most comfortable, we engage in dialogue while observing the horses. Overwhelmingly, people are amazed to see how the horses mirror our emotions and our body language, often reflecting back to us the tone and energy of the conversation, and offering insights of their own.
Do I need to have any experience with horses?
No prior horse experience is needed and there is no riding involved. Horse-lovers and newcomers alike find valuable lessons can be learned from the horses’ presence during our talk therapy or coaching sessions.
